got some time to spare?

We know free time can be scarce, but can you spare a few hours a week or a month to help our branch? Perhaps you want to try out a new role, gain new skills or use your existing skills in a more rewarding way. In return you will gain experience, meet new people and the branch will cover related costs incurred during your voluntary work.

We are currently looking for people to help us with the following roles.

Fundraising Support Volunteer

This post helps raise funds from local and regional companies and charitable trusts to fund our local work. The work involves completing a variety of grant applications. The ideal person should be numerate and computer literate with access to the internet, which is essential for the work. The time commitment is flexible and adaptable to match your availability.

Drop-In Volunteer

Are you able to spare a couple of hours a month to assist at one of our drop-in sessions? Duties would include helping set up, serving refreshments and socialising with members. We are particularly looking for someone to help at our Stratford drop-in which takes place on the third Wednesday of every month at the Methodist Church. See our Events page for more details of our drop in sessions.

Support Volunteers

If you enjoy meeting people, are a good listener and can spare a few hours each week to support the branch’s work and local people affected by MS, we would love to hear from you. We are particularly looking for visitors so that we can offer home and hospital visits. You will find it a rewarding role, with plenty of opportunities for developing your own skills and knowledge, as well as meeting other people. You will also be provided with training for your role and an induction pack full of useful information.

Transport

Can you help provide transport for people with MS in the local area?  Perhaps you can bring one of our members to a meeting or a social event? Drivers make a big difference in helping people access local services and facilities that they may otherwise not be able to use.

Collections

Can you spare a couple of hours occasionally to help us to collect money in the local area? We run regular collections throughout the year, typically in local supermarkets and town centres. Our collections are divided into time slots which are always done in pairs (at minimum) and we always try to be flexible when covering the time slots.

How you can help

We have a small group of volunteers and committee members who help to make everything happen in our Branch. We also rely on the support of individuals, local businesses and other organisations to help our branch. Without the time invested, hard work and invaluable funds raised by our supporters we couldn't continue to support people with MS in the local area. If you would like to support our branch there are many ways you can help:

Making a Donation

To make a donation to the national MS Society please visit the MS Society Donations page. If you wish to make a donation to our local branch, which will go directly towards supporting people in the local area, please donate via our Local Giving page. The Local Giving scheme provides us with a page on their website and gives us an opportunity to seek donations from people to help with our work. If you, or anyone else you know, would like to make a donation there is a “Donate Now” link on the page and, if you are a UK taxpayer, you can also Gift Aid the donation to increase its value.

Membership

Membership to the national MS Society is open to anyone and costs £5 per year. As a member you will receive regular copies of MS Matters (bi-monthly magazine) and gain access to the online Members Zone. By joining the Stratford-upon-Avon branch you will also receive news of activities and events that are running locally. For more information on membership please visit the MS Society website.

Fundraising

Do you work for a business or organisation that raises money for charities?

Could we be a nominated charity for your business?

Fundraising can range from organising events in aid of our branch to having a collection tin in your business.  Examples of organisations that have helped us in the past can be seen here. If you can help please contact us - we would love to hear from you!

Sponsored Events

Are you able to take part in any local or national events where you can seek sponsorship from others? In the past people have entered marathons, half marathons, sky-dives, triathlons and bike rides to raise money for the branch. If you can do something similar, please contact us and we will give you information on how to make sure the funds raised come to our branch.
